The man, now thought to be a U.S. soldier, reportedly crossed North and South Korea's Military Demarcation line, which resulted in his detainment.

CNN reports that the Military Demarcation Line is only represented by a small line on the ground.

A single step over it determines whether one is standing in North Korea or South Korea.

When Joint Security Area (JSA) tours are conducted, participants are typically kept 20 yards away from the line.

The soldier's detainment comes at a time of raised tensions between the U.S., its allies and North Korea.
