‘Watching Tragic Situation’: Moscow Reacts to South Korean President Impeachment, Blames U.S

Russia expressed concern over the unfolding political crisis in South Korea, following President Yoon Suk Yeol's brief declaration of martial law and subsequent reversal.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that Moscow was monitoring the "tragic situation" in South Korea, but reassured that there were no threats to Russian citizens in the country.

Zakharova also pointed to the "provocative actions" of the United States and its allies as contributing factors to the instability on the Korean Peninsula.

Russia has recently strengthened its ties with North Korea, including a mutual defense agreement signed between President Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Meanwhile, the political situation in South Korea has sparked international backlash, with lawmakers submitting a bill to impeach President Yoon.
