Watch: DRDO’s ‘Bukhari’ heater to help Indian Army battle extreme cold

The Defence Research and Development Organisation has developed multiple products such the Him-Taapak heating devices and snow melters to help Indian Army jawans deployed in extremely low temperatures.

One such device, the Him Tapak space heating device ‘Bukhari’ will help jawans in areas such as Eastern Ladakh and Siachen battle the extreme cold conditions.

‘The Indian Army has placed orders worth ₹420 crores to the manufacturers of this device and they would be deployed in all new habitats of Army and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), where the temperature is low,’ Director of DRDO’s Defence Institute for Physiology and Allied Sciences Dr Varshney said.

Additionally, DRDO has also developed snow melters and ergonomically designed backpack for soldiers.
