16 electrocuted at river project site in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district

Sixteen people, including a sub-inspector and three home guard personnel, were electrocuted on Wednesday morning at the site of a sewage treatment plant (STP) of the Namami Gange project on the Alaknanda river in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district.

A transformer exploded on the banks of the Alaknanda River in Uttarakhand's Chamoli. As many as 16 people, including a police officer, died and seven others were injured after. Reports said that the explosion electrified a bridge in the region. The injured people have been rushed to the hospital for treatment and police and rescue teams have reached the spot and have started relief operations. The bridge, which is part of the Namami Gange project, spans the Alaknanda River. Reports said that out of those injured, two people are undergoing treatment at AIIMs and five others are being treated at Gopeshwar government hospital in Chamoli.
