Uttarakhand: 16 dead as transformer explodes on Alaknanda bank; bridge electrocuted | Oneindia News

A transformer exploded on the banks of the Alaknanda River in Uttarakhand's Chamoli.

As many as 16 people, including a police officer, died and seven others were injured after.

Reports said that the explosion electrified a bridge in the region.

The injured people have been rushed to the hospital for treatment and police and rescue teams have reached the spot and have started relief operations.

The bridge, which is part of the Namami Gange project, spans the Alaknanda River.

Reports said that out of those injured, two people are undergoing treatment at AIIMs and five others are being treated at Gopeshwar government hospital in Chamoli.
