Chris Christie caught on hot mic: Nikki Haley is 'gonna get smoked’

This is the awkward moment former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was overheard on a live mic criticising Nikki Haley ahead of a livestream event where he would be announcing that he was dropping out of the Republican presidential race, moments after the blunder on Wednesday.

Ron DeSantis called him, petrified he would endorse Haley but the hot mic was cut before Christie finished speaking.

Christie’s dropout comes as a surprise as he had insisted on Tuesday night that he had no plans to leave the race.

With one candidate down, Haley and DeSantis will hope to knock Donald Trump’s big lead ahead of the first vote in Iowa on Monday.
