Health Secretary urges junior doctors to call off strikes

Health Secretary Victoria Atkins has urged junior doctors to call off the strike.

Mrs Atkins said she was disappointed that junior doctors walked away from the negotiating table before a final offer was made and hinted that an improved offer on pay and conditions could be on the table if they called off the industrial action.

A 72-hour England-wide walkout began at 7am on Wednesday and will run until the same time on Saturday.

It comes as the NHS faces one of its toughest winters on record.
