In a last-minute agreement, Israel and Hamas have decided to extend the ceasefire in their war for at least one more day.

The truce, which was initially set for four days, has provided a brief respite in the intense bombardment of Gaza.

Much of the coastal territory, home to 2.3 million people, has been reduced to wasteland in response to a deadly rampage by Hamas militants into southern Israel on October 7.
