Rajya Sabha: New bill on Election Commission appointments; no CJI in selection panel | Oneindia News
According to a new bill introduced in the Rajya Sabha Chief Election, Commissioner and Election Commissioners will be selected by a three-member panel comprising the Prime Minister, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and a Cabinet Minister.
The panel will reportedly not have the Chief Justice of India.
The bill diverges from a Supreme Court ruling in March, which stated that the committee's composition should consist of the prime minister, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, and the Chief Justice of India.
