The battle between DeSantis and Disney began last year, revolving around Florida legislation that limits classroom discussion of sexual orientation and gender.

Disney spoke out against the so-called "Don't Say Gay" bill, and shortly after, DeSantis targeted the special tax district that Disney has enjoyed since the 1960s.

According to Disney, the cancellation of a development deal by a hand-picked board DeSantis appointed to oversee the Orlando park "was patently retaliatory.".

Disney also reportedly called the move "patently anti-business and patently unconstitutional.".

Disney claims that the now-canceled development contract "laid the foundation for billions of Disney's investment dollars and thousands of jobs.".

The same DeSantis-approved board voted to ban Disney's Orlando-area parks from imposing COVID-related restrictions in the future.

Disney's civil complaint is looking for the court to rule that the decisions made by the board were both unlawful and unenforceable
