Govt on nurses’ strike: We don’t have £10bn for 19% pay rise

Health minister Maria Caulfield says she “understands the concerns about historic pay, but at the moment we just don’t have £10 billion to give out 19% increase” to nurses.

Tens of thousands of nurses are going on strike on Thursday for the first time across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
