Manipur CM unveils statue of Gorkha slain soldier Niranjan Chhetri

Biren Singh unveiled a statue of Shaheed Subedar Niranjan Singh Chhetri, one of the heroes of Anglo-Manipur War, 1891 and a confidant of Bir Tikendrajit, at Kanglatongbi in Imphal West District on March 07.

Speaking on the occasion, N.

Biren Singh said that Gorkhas should never get discouraged with the notion that they belong to a minority community in Manipur.

A book titled, "Shaheed Niranjan Singh Chhetri, the Unsung hero of Anglo-Manipur (Khongjom) War, 1891", authored by Ghanashyam Acharya, and a booklet titled, "Sahid Subedar Niranjan Chhetry, Bharat Emagi Athouba Mapari" by Ajit Das were also released at the occasion.

A rally for Assam Rifles ex-servicemen of Manipur was also organized under the aegis of Headquarter Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) at Khuman Lampak Stadium.

The rally was conducted following COVID protocols and elicited participation by more than 250 ex-servicemen under the theme 'We Connect - We Care'.

As part of the rally, a Medical and Dental Camp was also organized.

The occasion was graced by Lt Gen SukhdeepSangwan, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Bar to Sena Medal, DG Assam Rifles as the Chief Guest.

Maj Gen AlokNaresh, IG AR (S), Lt Gen K Himalaya Singh (Veteran), Lt Gen L Nishikanta Singh (Veteran), and other Assam Rifles officials were also in attendance.
