Colorado's Most Endangered Places 2021 - Balcony House

Winter Park's Balcony House was built in the 1950s by ski industry pioneers wanting to give the skiers at the fast-growing Winter Park ski resort a place to meet, eat, and relax after a day on the slopes.

Over the years, its use has shifted to meet other needs of the resort.

Today, the building's future is in question.

The master plan for Winter Park resort has it being razed in favor of a new building.

Preservationists would like to keep the building as a tribute to those early ski industry pioneers, and combine it with new construction behind it.
