On Sunday, the United States reached yet another sobering milestone in the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to NBC News, the U.S. surpassed 500,000 COVID-19 deaths.

.

The global total stands at 2.5 million deaths, meaning the U.S. accounts for more than a fifth of COVID-19 deaths in the world.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the U.S. has also grown, with nearly a total of 29 million reported.

.

The U.S. is currently in the midst of rolling out vaccines across the country.

President Joe Biden confirmed this month that the U.S. is on track to have a total of 600 million vaccine doses by the end of July.

.

He blamed the slow vaccine rollout on his predecessor, saying Donald Trump โ€œdidnโ€™t order enough vaccines.โ€ .

He didnโ€™t mobilize enough people to administer the shots.

He didnโ€™t set up federal vaccine centers where eligible people could go and get their shots.
