The unemployed youth of JandK's Pulwama district are getting benefits from Prime Ministers Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP).

A young entrepreneur hailing from Wahibugh Village of Pulwama district has turned adversity of his life into an opportunity thorough this programme.

Mohd Asgar Bhat has started a shoe making unit.

He got a loan from District Industries Centres (DICs) under PMEGP and started his business unit at an Industrial estate in Pulwama.

Speaking to ANI, Bhat said, "Through Prime Ministers Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) they have supported me by giving a loan of Rs 25 lakh.

I started a unit of chappal (footwear) making here and now it's been 5-6 months that I have started this business." "Now, I am creating market and hopefully things are going well.

I am supplying footwear in entire Jammu and Kashmir as well as in Ladakh," Bhat added.

An employee of Bhat's unit, Ejaz Ahmad told ANI, "Here, we are manufacturing ladies and gents chappals (footwear).

My friend has started this unit and I am working with him over here.

It is a good work in Lassipora Industrial Estate." "If anyone wants to do this work then it is my suggestion that they can easily do this as it has profit too," he added.

Speaking to ANI, the manager of District Industries Centres, GM Bhat said, "We are providing loans to youth under a centrally sponsored scheme Prime Ministers Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) to start their own factories.

Under manufacturing sector they can get a loan up to Rs 25 lakh and in servicing sector loan can be provided up to Rs 10 lakh." "Government is providing them subsidy of 35 % under this scheme.

So far several youth have taken loan from our three agencies.

This year 742 people have taken loan from us under PMEGP," he added.
