COVID cases drop sharply, but variants loom

U.S. health experts on Monday said COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations were down sharply in recent weeks, but that the variant first detected in the U.K. and now spreading stateside could reverse that trend without continued adherence to protocols and rapid vaccination of the public.
