Glacial burst near power project leads to massive flood in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli

A massive flood was reported in the Dhauliganga river near a village in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district.

Hundreds of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel have been rushed to carry out rescue operations at the site.

Several riverbank side houses were destroyed due to the flood and causalities are feared.

Rishiganga Power Project was damaged due to a glacial burst.

The power project is located at Raini village in Tapovan area of Chamoli.

Uttarakhand CM TS Rawat said police and disaster management teams have been deployed at several areas.

Rawat also posted helpline numbers for those in the affected areas.

“If you are stuck in the affected area, if you need any kind of help, please contact Disaster Operations Center number 1070 or 9557444486,” he tweeted.

Rescue workers have reached Reni village in Joshimath area of Chamoli district.

Rescue operation at several areas is underway.
