New this morning - it has been more than two weeks since governor gavin newsom ordered all indoor dining in the state - to stop.

Action news now reporter jafet is live in chico jafet - are businesses putting any safety protocols in place?

I'm in front of mom's restaurant on salem street.

They're one of the restaurants that applied for a parklet permit so they can set up outside dining.

Thinking of grabbing a bite to eat?

"we have to support all of these restaurants or we're not going to have them when this is all over."

Restaurants are moving to outdoor dining to help survive the pandemic.

"people need to have social interactions with others."

But there are rules.

"parameters are things like staying away from ada parking, not being in the way of travel lanes, fire lanes or exits from buildings."

Tables also have to be at least six feet apart and comply with c-d-c guidelines.

"it really comes down to safety.

Following the cdc guidelines but also providing accesibility in the public right of way."

(standup:) ottoboni tells me that restaurants like madison bear garden applied for a parklet.

That means the restaurant would use existing parking space like right here.

And convert it into an outdoor dining area.

Here's what it would look like.

These pictures are from the city of pasadena.

You can see tables and barriers right next to the road.

"those will be placed at the very front edge in the direction of traffic so that if a car happens to drive through it will stop the car."

"if its really packed then you would just choose for yourself whether you want to go there.

The city would restaurants install the barriers - but ultimately its the owner's responsility to maintain the space.

I asked ottoboni when we could see temporary parklets come to chico... he says hopefully very soon.
