Kind policeman gives food to homeless family during coronavirus struggle in the Philippines

A policeman in the Philippines was seen giving his snacks to a homeless family he saw roaming outside the street during the coronavirus restrictions in the country.

Onlooker Ape Waje said she was out to buy dinner in Marikina City in Metro Manila on May 14 with a relative when they saw the touching gesture from the officer.

She said: "I can't believe that there are still good people in these trying times.

We all need the extra hand from others to get through the problems we are facing." In the video, the homeless couple with two babies were stopped by the police on the road.

But instead of giving them warnings about the coronavirus, the kind cop offered them some water and snacks to eat.

He even gave them some cash before they departed.

The policeman was later identified as Police Corporal Ronald Bunao of the city police's Bike Patrol Unit when he thanked Ape for the video.

The Philippines had implemented a strict policy on staying indoors during the coronavirus quarantine, taking some of the nation's homeless into social welfare shelters.

Other non-government institutions such as church and other organisations had also provided temporary living spaces for the homeless people.
