PM orders people to 'stay at home' amid new restrictions

In an address to the nation, Prime Minister Boris Johnson had warned people they must stay at home as he announced new measures to prohibit gatherings and order shops selling non-essential goods to close.

The PM said people will only be allowed out to shop for basic essentials, one form of exercise a day, any medical need and to get to and from work if absolutely necessary.

Police will have powers to enforce the new restrictions through fines and dispersing gatherings.
