Southern Philippines witnessed another major natural disaster, where at least 20 people have lost their lives due to days of torrential rains, causing widespread devastation in several provinces. Provincial disaster agencies have reported a grim toll, with 13 casualties in Davao de Oro province, two individuals still missing, and seven fatalities in the neighbouring Davao del Norte. The relentless rains, driven by a combination of a northeast monsoon and a low-pressure area, pounded the southern Mindanao region from January 28 to February 2, triggering deadly floods and landslides.
