Pope Francis sends message to UN climate summit
Pope Francis on Saturday (December 2) called on the UN climate summit to strive for a breakthrough to stem global warming that includes the elimination of fossil fuel. The 86-year-old pope had planned to attend the conference but a lung inflammation forced him to remain in the Vatican. The statement was read by Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin on his behalf.
