Britain increases aid to Palestinians by 10 million pounds

Britain will increase aid to the Palestinian people by 10 million pounds ($12.18 million) in response to a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said on Monday, as he called for Israel to try and minimise civilian casualties.

After a deadly blast at a Gaza Strip hospital, President Joe Biden stated it seemed to result from a rocket fired by a terrorist group from Gaza. During his visit to Tel Aviv following an attack by Gaza-based Hamas gunmen, another explosion occurred at Al-Ahli al-Arabi hospital. While Palestinian officials attributed it to an Israeli airstrike, Israel blamed a failed Palestinian Islamic Jihad rocket launch. Biden pledged $100 million for Palestinian humanitarian aid and sought Congress's support for increased aid to Israel. He urged Israel to maintain its democratic principles and noted the majority of Palestinians weren't Hamas-affiliated. The U.S. vetoed a UN resolution for humanitarian pauses in the conflict. Biden emphasized unwavering support for Israel and addressed tough questions with Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu.
