North Korea says latest spy satellite launch failed, but will try again

North Korea's second attempt to place a spy satellite in orbit failed on Thursday after the rocket booster experienced a problem during its third stage, state media reported, as space authorities vowed to try again in October.

North Korea has confirmed that its second attempt to launch a spy satellite has failed but it has vowed to make another attempt in October, demonstrating its willingness to endure flops to acquire a key military asset coveted by leader Kim Jong Un. The Northโs space agency said it used the new-type carrier rocket Chollima-1 to put the reconnaissance satellite Malligyong-1 into orbit. It said the flights of the rocketโs first and second stages were normal, but the launch eventually failed due to an error in the emergency blasting system during the third-stage flight.
