Delhi's Patiala House Court on August 30, 2016, dismissed his petition seeking divorce on the grounds of cruelty. He filed the plea in 2013. They got married In September 1994 but have been living apart since 2009.

The Delhi High Court on December 12 dismissed National Conference leader Omar Abdullah's plea seeking divorce from his estranged wife, saying there was no merit in his appeal. The court was of the view that there is no infirmity in the order passed by the family court and the allegations of cruelty that were levelled were vague.
