Congress’s all out attack on Centre over Manipur violence, Shashi Tharoor favours lifting internet ban

Even as senior Congress leaders have been demanding some comments from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the ongoing violence in Manipur since May 3, party MP Shashi Tharoor on Sunday spoke in favour of lifting the ban on internet in the strife-torn northeastern state.

On Monday, the Supreme Court refused to interfere with the Manipur High Court's order regarding the restoration of limited internet services in the state. The Court granted the State of Manipur the freedom to approach the High Court and inform them about the difficulties faced in implementing the High Court's order. The bench consisted of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice PS Narasimha, and Justice Manoj Misra. They heard a plea filed by the State Government challenging the Manipur High Court's decision to allow the partial restoration of internet services in the State.
