Kenyan police have fired tear gas at dozens of protesters in Nairobi and blocked off roads to the presidential palace as crowds took to the streets again nationwide.

Finance bill protest: Kenyan policeman's hands blown off in tear gas blunder
Inspector David Maina, a Kenyan police officer, suffered catastrophic injuries when a tear gas canister accidentally exploded in his hands. Attached to the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU), Inspector Maina was in a stand-off with protesters against Kenyan President William Ruto’s deeply unpopular Finance Bill in Nairobi city centre on 18 June 2024. Inspector Maina was admitted to Nairobi West Hospital.
