Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejects the Palestinian militant group Hamas's demand to end the war in Gaza in order to reach a ceasefire and hostage release deal, saying it would be a "terrible defeat" for Israel. Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh has accused Netanyahu of sabotaging the truce talks, the latest bid to halt the devastating almost seven-month-long war that has triggered worldwide protests.
