The negotiations will involve U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and a senior Iranian official.

Rubio emphasized the U.S. stance against Iran acquiring nuclear weapons and expressed hope that the discussions would pave the way for peace.

The announcement came during a Cabinet meeting led by President Donald Trump.
