In a devastating incident early on New Year’s Day, a man deliberately drove a pickup truck into a crowd of New Year’s revellers on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing at least 10 people and injuring dozens more.
New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick described the attack as "very intentional," with the suspect aiming to "run over as many people as he possibly could." The horrific event also saw the gunman open fire on police officers, wounding two, who are now in stable condition.
Authorities later discovered a possible explosive device at the scene, prompting an ongoing investigation by the FBI.
As emergency responders rushed to the location, the city remained in shock after what was supposed to be a festive celebration turned into a tragedy.
Police have urged the public to avoid the area as the investigation continues.
