The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Chennai and nearby districts for October 15, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall of 6 cm to 20 cm.

A yellow alert is in place for October 14 and 16, with expected rainfall between 6 cm and 12 cm.

Meteorologists attribute the rain to a developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal, potentially affecting multiple districts this week.
