Japan lifts 'megaquake' warning

Japan has lifted a week-old "megaquake" warning, put in place after a magnitude 7.1 quake struck on 8 August, injuring 15 people and triggering fears of a second tremor and potential tsunami.

The alert prompted thousands of Japanese to cancel holidays and stock up on essentials, emptying shelves in some stores.
