‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Writers Reveal Robert Downey Jr.’s Scrapped Cameo

In a recent IndieWire interview, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick revealed they initially planned for Robert Downey Jr. to cameo as Tony Stark/Iron Man, with a scene showing Deadpool pitching himself to the Avengers.

However, Downey declined the role due to his upcoming appearance as Doctor Doom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Despite the missed opportunity, the scene featuring Happy Hogan rejecting Deadpool’s pitch stayed in the film.

The writers also considered a version with the original Avengers confronting Deadpool, including a comedic moment with Rob Delaney’s character lifting Thor’s hammer.

Downey’s future role as Doctor Doom is set to bring a major shift to the MCU.
