DRIVER GETS T-BONED, ROLLS MULTIPLE TIMES, LIVINGSTON TEXAS, 08/06/24...

Driver Gets T-Boned, Rolled, Flown From Scene, LIVINGSTON, August 6, 2024 - Shortly before 2 pm on August 6, 2024, a black 2008 Nissan Pathfinder was east-bound on US-190 West.

As the driver was about to pass Chic Fila, a gray 2024 Kia K5, driven by a female Livingston minor, attempted to cross over from the west-bound lanes and was apparently distracted when she failed to yield to the Nissan (driven by James Akins, 52, of Coldspring).

The impact caused Akins to lose control of his vehicle.

According to witnesses, his vehicle rolled multiple times.

Akins' vehicle came to rest upright on the pavement.

The minor in the Kia pulled into the parking lot between Chic Fila and Blue Wave Car Wash.

Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, and Officer Jack Mueller with the Livingston Police Department.

Officer Mueller was assisted by other Officers with LPD including Chief Matt Parrish.

Akins sustained a serious head wound and was flown from the scene.

The other driver was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial as a precautionary measure.

All traffic on the east-bound side of 190 was blocked during investigation, cleanup, and flight operations.

The minor in the Kia K5 is like facing a citation for failing to yield.

As for Akins, an open bottle of Canadian Mist Whiskey, methamphetamine, and pills were found in his vehicle.

Pending blood work, Akins could be facing a citation for driving while intoxicated.

Both vehicles were recovered by Pop's Wrecker Service out of Livingston.

This accident remains under investigation by the Livingston Police Department.
