Amidst the return of farmers to Brussels for the third time in two months to protest against the European agricultural policy, tensions escalated briefly, leading to outbreaks of hostility and fires across the capital's EU district, including within a metro station.

The demonstration on Tuesday witnessed the ignition of hay bales and the spraying of manure across the streets in the Schuman area.

Additionally, the stairs at the Maelbeek underpass were swiftly obstructed as hay and debris were hurled down and subsequently set ablaze by the protesting farmers.
