Severe flooding, landslides, and relentless torrential rains have claimed the lives of at least 23 individuals in Papua New Guinea's Highlands region.

The devastating impact of the natural calamity has left homes destroyed and roads completely washed away.

Lusete Man, the Acting Director for the National Disaster Centre, sadly reported that among the casualties were a mother and child, highlighting the indiscriminate nature of the disaster's toll on communities.

Additionally, coastal areas in the Gulf province, situated south of Chimbu, have also been submerged, compounding the widespread devastation caused by the inclement weather.
