Tragedy struck off the coast of northern Senegal as a loaded vessel carrying migrants capsized, resulting in the loss of at least 24 lives, according to Governor Alioune Badara Samb of the Saint Louis region.

The incident occurred in a perilous area along the northern coast, known for its treacherous currents and dense mud.

Since Wednesday, authorities have recovered 24 bodies from the wreckage.

The Saint Louis estuary, where the Senegal River converges with the Atlantic Ocean, poses significant challenges for maritime navigation due to its hazardous conditions.
