In a political showdown, the government coalition, consisting of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and the People's National Congress (PNC), has declared its intent to block any attempts to remove President Mohamed Muizzu from office.

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), the main opposition and the parliamentary majority holder, is reportedly planning to submit a motion for the impeachment of President Muizzu.
