During a religious ceremony on January 28, an Italian church in Istanbul fell victim to an attack.

As of the time of this report, the interior minister in President Erdogan's administration has confirmed at least one fatality in connection with the incident.

At approximately 11:40 local time (03:10 p.m.

IST), the Santa Maria church in the Sariyer district of Istanbul became the target of an attack carried out by two masked assailants, as reported by Ali Yerlikaya on social media.

The interior minister confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation has been initiated.
