A flurry of reports suggests that the US troop presence in Iraq & Syria, established in 2014-15 to combat the Islamic State group, is coming to an end.

According to Defense and State Department sources, the White House has grown wary of continuing the deployment in Syria.

Currently, around 900 US troops are partnered with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces against the Islamic State.
