How to Keep Your Indoor Plants Alive During the Winter Months

How to Keep Your Indoor Plants Alive During the Winter Months.

For humans, winter months mean chilly weather, cozy blankets and hot cocoa.

.

For plants, the combination of low temperatures and less sunlight means a more difficult environment to thrive in.

.

Here are five tips to help your indoor plants stay alive this winter.

.

1.

Plants are sensitive to air temperatures, so you'll need to help them find their perfect balance.

.

Move plants away from doors and windowsills to protect them from cold air, but also keep them away from sources of heat, such as fireplaces, radiators and vents.

.

2.

The majority of houseplants go โ€œdormantโ€ in the winter months, meaning they need less water.

.

Continue your normal watering schedule, but reduce the amount of water you give them somewhere in the 25-50 percent range.

.

3.

To protect your plants from low humidity and keep them in the 50-60 percent range, invest in a humidifier.

.

If you donโ€™t have one, put your plants in the most humid rooms of your home, which is usually the kitchen or bathroom.

4.

Make sure your plants stay clean and dust-free so they can more effectively photosynthesize.

Use a handheld sprayer to give their leaves a gentle shower or wipe them with a damp towel.

5.

Make sure your plants are getting plenty of sunlight by rotating their positions around as needed.

Consider investing in grow lamp if there isnโ€™t enough natural sunlight available
