On the increasing cases of heart attacks among young people, Dr Naresh Trehan, Chairman and Managing Director, Medanta Medicity says, "There are multiple reasons.
We know that India is the capital of coronary artery disease.
But in addition to that, the modern lifestyle where we have a lot of consumption of food, which is very rich preserved junk food in special, all the beverages have high sodium content and all that, that's also creating problems. Then in addition, the stress of daily existence and the pollution is taking its toll.
So all these things put together, we know that people who are living in an environment like Delhi where the AQI is very poor, the incidence of high blood pressure and lung diseases are going up usually and then heart is not behind.
So that is why we really need to understand that in this current environment how we cope with the different elements that are producing higher and higher incidences of heart disease and also younger and younger patients collapsing from it.
So this is a main concern to us."
