'Captain' Vijayakanth, Founder of DMDK, Passes Away at 71 in Chennai | Oneindia News
DMDK founder and actor "Captain" Vijayakanth, aged 71, passed away in Chennai.
He was admitted to Miot Hospital for pneumonia and was on ventilatory support.
Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his illness.
Earlier, his party stated he tested positive for COVID-19, but the results were not confirmed.
Vijayakanth, a versatile actor with 154 films, entered politics in 2005, forming the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK).
His wife, Premalatha, recently took over as DMDK's general secretary.
Prime Minister Modi expressed condolences, recognizing Vijayakanth's impact on Tamil Nadu's political landscape.
