Rishi Sunak defends Eat Out to Help Out at Covid-19 Inquiry

Rishi Sunak has come under fire at the UK Covid Inquiry over his controversial ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme.

The Prime Minister defended the policy saying: "This was a very reasonable, sensible policy intervention to help safeguard those jobs in that safe reopening.

That was my view.

I didn't believe that it was a risk.

I believe it was the right thing to do." Families of the covid bereaved gathered outside of the Inquiry in West London saying that they do not accept his excuses and slammed the impact of ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ in accelerating the spread of the virus.

In total £849 million was claimed through the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, providing discounts for over 160 million meals in August 2020.
