The Bible and Public Education

In the Colonial period of our nation the Bible was central to education.

The Bible was required public school reading in thirteen states in 1950 and permitted in twenty-five other states.

After several court cases Bible reading in public schools had virtually vanished by the 1964-65 academic year.

The 1984 Equal Access Act passed by Congress gave students to right to gatherings for various activities including Bible reading and discussion.

This has been challenged 1990 and 2001.

Joel Penton, a former Ohio State defensive lineman founded Lifewise Academy to inform, guide and help facilitate Bible Education for Public School Students during school hours.
