Govt policy on China ‘too weak’, says former Tory leader

Former Conservative Party Leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith has signalled that he and others in the party believe the government’s position on China is “too weak”.

It comes as Rishi Sunak faces pressure to designate China a threat to national security after a parliamentary researcher was arrested on suspicion of spying for Beijing.

Sir Iain said: “They’ve penetrated so many institutions, from universities, through to scientific communities and also Parliament; surely that’s an act of a threatening nature?” Report by Buseld.
