CBS News reports that a March 2024 trial date has been set for the DOJ's case against former President Donald Trump concerning his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

On August 28, U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan said that the January 2024 start date proposed by federal prosecutors failed to give Trump enough time to prepare.

The federal judge also said that the April 2026 start date suggested by Trump's legal team goes "far beyond what is necessary." .

Chutkan added that the proposed later date also ran the risk of witnesses becoming unavailable or the events in question fading from their minds.

The judge chose March 4, 2024, for the start of the trial, meaning the proceedings will take place one day prior to Super Tuesday.

.

Super Tuesday plays a critical role for presidential candidates, as over a dozen states hold their presidential primaries.

.

CBS reports that John Lauro, Trump's lead attorney, said the former president's legal team may ask for a stay in the case, pending upcoming legal arguments.
