RMT: Government is determined to keep rail wages down

The RMT Union’ Assistant General Secretary has blamed the government for continued rail strike action, as thousands of members walk out once again over pay and job security.

Eddie Dempsey said: “Wherever the government is not directly involved, we’re settling pay deals and getting on with business as usual … [the government] is determined to keep wages down, remove jobs out of the industry and is not prepared to allow industry to negotiate a settlement with us that our members can support."
