'Akira' Ransomware: India warns users against new extortion malware| Indepth With ILA |Oneindia News

A new, dangerous ransomware is preying on internet users in India.
CERT-IN or the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team has issued a warning against this new ransomware proliferating in the cyberspace.
This malicious software targets Windows and Linux-based systemsโฆ encrypts vital personal data and extorts money from its victims. Letโs first understand ransomware in simple terms. Ransomware is a type of malware that holds users' data hostage, denying access until a ransom is paid to the attackers.
The name of this newly emerged ransomware is โAkiraโ.
There was another ransomware by the name of Akira back in 2017 but the two are not related.
This new โAkiraโ is a specific type of ransomware designed to encrypt data on infected computers and manipulate filenames by appending the " dot akira" extension.
