SNP’s Joanna Cherry presses PM on ECHR and Human Rights Act

The prime minister faces questions on the Human Rights Act and the UK’s membership of the European Convention on Human Rights from Joanna Cherry - Chair of the parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights.

Rishi Sunak says he will introduce legislation next year to reform Britain’s immigration system, but would not say if this would necessitate the country’s exit from the ECHR.

When the PM argued that updating the Human Rights Act was a manifesto commitment from 2019, Ms Cherry said that Dominic Raab’s Bill of Rights Bill “repeals it and replaces it”.
